Our VFW Post is proud to partner with Sandpoint High School’s welding program on a special community project honoring local veterans. Led by welding instructor Mr. Stark, his third-year welding students designed and are building us 3 park benches that will be placed along the Long Bridge walking path. Each bench showcases Sandpoint’s natural beauty and includes a tribute to a branch of the U.S. military. The benches are truly impressive, and we thank these talented students for their craftsmanship and dedication to our community. Pictured below;

Front row: Chase Rasor, Lucy Thayer.

Back row: (Left to Right) Mitchell Barton, Colby Dyk,  Daniel Butcher, Dimirti Borden, Rob Lattno, Mr. Stark, Grayson Kingman.

Sandpoint is going to really appreciate these benches once completed and installed on the Long Bridge!

Volunteers stand before rows of stacked firewood in the forest

On May 24, members of the VFW post and Ceder Hills Church got together to chop, move, stack, and pile high firewood for veterans in need. Working hard out in the summer heat, over 20 cords of wood were prepared for veteran families, an increase of over 2 cords for the previous year.

National Holidays

Every year the VFW hosts a meal event for multiple national holidays such as Memorial, Independence and Veteran’s Day to name a few. We enjoy celebrating with our local community members and getting our Veterans out and about.

Community Collaborations

The Sandpoint VFW enjoys collaborating with other local organizations such as the Sandpoint Elks Lodge to provide assistance for their events. A major event we enjoy assisting with is the yearly Patriot Golf Scramble which provides our local community and our VFW with grants and scholarships.

Member Appreciation

Our VFW values its members even when they are no longer with us or move away. We offer assistance with membership transfers and upon approval of membership to our local hall, members are welcome to join our general meeting monthly. Meetings are held the 3rd Saturday of every month with hot coffee and donuts, or other treats, available for members to enjoy.

Wood Lot

The VFW provides cords of wood for local veterans and civilians in need. Thanks to a local family in support of this outreach, we are able to collect, store and hold wood on their property right outside of Sandpoint. Please reach to out to our post via phone(208-263-9613) or email(post2453vfw@gmail.com) if you are in need of wood or would like to volunteer for wood cutting and cleanup.

Community & Veteran Assistance

The Sandpoint VFW takes helping its local veterans with great honor. Pictured are various ways the VFW has served its community from Annual Turkey Shoots that raise food for the local food bank to providing free meals on holidays, assisting VFW members and community members with a variety of financial assistance and scholarships to local youth.
